considered by many to be one of Florida's best-kept secrets
- a gem of a community located directly on the snow-white beaches
and emerald-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Navarre began as a tiny fishing and farming village, but today
it is one of the fastest-growing areas in Northwest Florida, each
year, more and more people discover Navarre's beauty and make it
their vacation home away from home.
Visit Navarre, and you'll find all the amenities of a classic
Florida vacation, without the traffic jams. Those who love the natural
beauty of the outdoors will find a paradise in Navarre. As part
of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Navarre Beach includes miles
of undeveloped beaches, where the Gulf of Mexico laps gently against
soft, pure sands of the shores. Navarre Beach was rated one of the
best beaches in the nation by the University of Maryland's Laboratory
for Coastal Research. Researchers gave Navarre Beach high marks
for sand softness, water and air temperatures, number of sunny days
and gentle currents. Navarre Beach also earned high marks for its
lack of litter, pests and crowds.
The miles of unspoiled beaches offer endless opportunities
for recreational fun on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Ride the surf
on boards and kayaks, build sandcastles, walk for miles without
seeing anyone or just relax and soak up the sun.
Scuba divers and snorkelers delight in the beauty below
the sea, where the breathtaking beauty of natural and artificial
reefs are visible from ranges of five to 15 feet.
Boating enthusiasts can climb aboard charter boats offering guided
tours, as well as fishing. Visitors with their own vessel can launch
from the public park at the foot of Navarre bridge or from the island,
and the protected waters of the Santa Rosa Sound provide safe boating
for novices as well as pros. On the island, local rental shops offer
sailboats, jet skis, windsurfing, paddle boats and parasail
rides, and also provide lessons which can have the most inexperienced
visitor navigating the waters with confidence. In nearby Milton,
dubbed the Canoeing Capital of the World, visitors can
rent canoes, kayaks and tubes for exciting excursions on the beautiful
waters of the Blackwater, Sweetwater/Juniper and the Coldwater rivers.
The area's salt and fresh water offers an abundant bounty for
fishing. In the Gulf, anglers will reap pompano, flounder, cobia,
king and Spanish mackerel, white trout, flounder and many others.
On the rivers, fly rod enthusiasts will delight in the fierce fight
put up by bass and bluegill and others. Those who enjoy fishing
as a competition will also find many opportunities, with salt and
freshwater tournaments common from May through October.
Although the area's water is impressive, land-lovers aren't left
out of the fun. Golf courses offer exquisite and challenging
greens with more than 40 golf courses between Gulf Shores and Destin,
and several within minutes of Navarre.
